We wanted to create a way to enjoy our back yard which is adjacent to thick woodland. There is always a nice breeze that funnels between the structure of the house and the tree line. Before looking at ideas, we established several criteria for our design. First, we didn’t want to eliminate the existing landscaping along the back of the house. This made us realize the deck needed to be ground level since it would not be attached to the back of the house. It also meant we didn’t have to remove existing steps exiting from the back door of the house. Next, it had to incorporate an existing walkway along the back of the garage. Finally, we wanted to stay away from a square deck designs.
